My WSOP and Steel Panther
- Liv Boeree | July 2, 2009
So I’ve been out at the World Series for a month, and so much has happened I can barely figure out what day it is. Pokerwise it has been, erm, mixed. I’ve had a couple of cashes, the best of which was in a $1500 NLH event where I finished 54th out of 2700 or so for $7.5k. It was very frustrating getting that deep and then going card dead and pushing into Aces. D’oh. Nonetheless, I’ve been having a lot of fun and getting a lot of good experience, and am actually pleased with the way I’ve been playing despite the inability to run even remotely well.
The highlight of the last week had to be going to see Steel Panther, an 80s hair metal cover band with a twist of stand-up comedy. They play each week at the Green Valley ranch so a bunch of us descended upon there in a swirl of Jack Daniel’s and Jaegermeister and got our rock on. It all got a lot better when I got invited up on stage by the band to sing, dance and make a general fool of myself for a couple of songs. I would like to think they invited me up for my musical talents but it was most likely because my spandex trousers outshone theirs. Either way, a damn good night was had by all and I would highly recommend going to see them next friday if you need a break from the table!
