Crazy Times at the LAPC

After traveling to Malta with CEO Dan Fleyshman, I find myself at the Commerce for the LAPC. Partially due to the great tournament schedule that Matt Savage and crew puts together, the place is as packed as I’ve seen it in years. In addition, No-Limit, PLO, and all sorts of mixed games fill the cash game area.

Unfortunately for me, the trip hasn’t started out too well. As soon as I got to the casino, I jumped into a $20/$40/$100 PLO game that frequently had $200 straddles. Within the first two hours I had been all-in 3 times. Each time, we ran the turn and river twice. I went 0 for 6. Good game me.

The No-Limit games have been fairly uneventful with the exception of one somewhat interesting hand. We are playing $20/$40 with a $100 ante. The cutoff, a young, thinking, and aggressive opponent, opens. I then 3bet the button to $700 with AKo. I assume he is going to view this as me bullying him and thus give the reraise very little credit. So, when he proceeds to 4-bet to a total of $1,700, I heavily weight his hands toward bluffs. Granted, I could be totally off and be up against AA or KK some of the time. But, my feeling is that he’s just frustrated with me. I call, and the flop comes . He fires out $2,200. Given my previous thoughts, the board is fairly good for me as most of his bluffs haven’t improved. So, I call and we see a turn, which is a pretty good card for me. It’s very unlikely to have changed his holding, and it gives me some gutshot outs for the times when my read is off. Consequently, I SNAP-call his $6k shove only to hear him say, “F@#K!, do you have AA?” My heart sinks hearing that because I assume it means he has KK. However, after the hits the river he laments, “Anything wins.” I show my hand and take down a decent sized pot.

I’ll post more from my LAPC in a few days.
