oh downswings

Its been a long time since I have posted and that is because there really hasnt been all that much interesting to report. The ftops just ended and although I went deep in a few events I never got in good enough spots or made anything great happen. I feel like I have been able to get stacks in almost every tourney which i play but deep my luck is running out. It is definately a struggle to stay positive during a downswing but its essential. I need to know that I can win and have the confidence to shake it off heading into the WCOOP.

September will be a crucial month for me because I will be moving and starting a new life and the Wcoop will be going on as well obv.

I just wanted to say Congrats to a couple players namely Belowabove who is on the sickest online tear ive ever seen, and also to Waters81 who is having some amazing success as well. GJ guys

Ill post some HH’s from the wcoop and such in my next post.

August already

Hey readers, its been a couple weeks since I have posted and honestly theres not too much poker related stuff to talk about. I got 2nd in the 100r last sunday for 32k which was nice but besides that I have been not been playing or running as well as desirable. I have been on vacation quite a bit and am finally at home relaxing, swimming, playing a ton of basketball, and playing tournies a couple nights a week. I really hope I can stay relaxed and focused with a positive mindset this next month and maybe do some damage in an ftops or two. The ftops and Wcoop are gonna be awesome and I hope I can play most of the events.

Oh yeah and I saw the band, Secondhand serenade in concert yesterday which was really cool as well.

Take care and GL on the tables.

yo

Hello everyone,

Its been very long since I last posted and for that I apologize. So a quick rundown of whats been up,

I busted the Main event day 1a which I will recap for you all below, I jumped on the next flight home to NC, Ive since been relaxing and playing basketball and some online stuff, no great results to report recently….sigh, I just got down to Florida for vacation for a few days and then next week im going to NY and Maine for vacation with my family. Ok that was a long **-ing sentence.

Oh yeah and the new O.A.R CD is out so check that out.

Ok so main event….I get seated at a table with Freddy Deeb on my right who I must say is an incredibly nice guy and a very unique but good player. The rest of my table were no names and I looked to see a ton of flops and play a lot of pots in position with my 20k stack.

After the first few hands I was down to about 19k when hand 1 occured.

1. I raise 33 on button, and both blinds called. Flop comes down 366 and with 900 in the pot and it checked to me I ck behind with my boat in hopes that an A or a K falls on the turn. SO the Ace of spades falls on the turn and a player leads for 800. I raised to 2400 and he called. the river was the A clubs and he leads out 1600 and I instamuck, he shows AQ.

2. So i have about 15k and 2 guys limp and I limp in the cutoff with J10o. The flop comes JJ2 with 2 clubs and an aggro player who I had played with in the 2500 6 max event leads for 300. I raised to 1025 and he reraised to 4k. I just called with 10k behind. turn 8 clubs and he bet 8k which seemed like a strange bet to me because the only hands I could put him on were 22 88 J8 or possible clubs(but i thought v unlikely because he would have just called the flop). I tanked it called the clock on myself and 2 players said they saw him flash 88 hahahaha. GLD i guess, maybe I should have just moved in on the flop but I thought we were too deep.

3. After working back up to like 13k, this hand hurt me a lot. 3 guys limp I look down at 99 and make it 400 from the button. 2 callers see a flop of 7c5cKh, it goes check, player bets 800 and I call. The turn was another K which I thought was a great card for me and I really had him on a club draw or a hand like 64 or 68. He bet turn and I called, and he bet river and i called after tanking it and he shows KQ.

I misplayed this hand but really just went with my read which was wrong.

4. Down to like 5.5k I look down at AA in the BB. guy raises to 300 and I flat. flop comes 1093 2 diamonds, i ck raise his 400 bet to 1000 and he moves in and I snap flip up my AA and he shows QQ.

QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ on the turn GG me.

So i dont feel like there was much I could do in this event, it just didnt go my way…..

Thanks for reading, hopefully Ill have an ftops win to report next month. If I do, Im gonna tell them to put an ftops jersey on the lizard FTW.

Practice makes Perfect

Hey everyone the saying: “Practice makes Perfect,” is a widely accepted one across many spheres of competition. Whether it be playing Soccer in 6th grade, basketball in 11th or poker now, I have always and want to believe that this is true. It must be true…..Right?

I have fully realized that Poker is different, you can practice and practice but poker will never be a perfect or a fair game. Donks get rewarded day in and day out and poker gamblers get smashed in the face with cards when they dont understand almost any level of the game. However as poker players we have to realize that we cant expect perfection, we cant expect to be given what is fair or what we deserve, good play while it is “profitable” in the long run, is not dictated by our wants, expectations or desires. This WSOP has been a rough one. I know I have a really laggy/spewy image and people think that I play poker wild 24/7 this has not been the case at the WSOP. I have really adapted to live play and tightened my game up  a ton in every event I have played. I havent bluffed or spewed off a stack in any of the first 10 prelim events I have played. Last night I played down to the end of the 8th level in the 1500 NL event and had about 9k at 400 800 blinds. Mr. Olddonk raises to 2500 in Mid position, and I look down at the pure gold that is AJo and push all my chips in the middle. I said GG as he flipped over A3ss and the board fell  9s8s7h2h………Js  gg me.

Time to get pumped for the main event, give it my best and hope I can run well.

Gl to all of you in your endeavours, poker or nonpoker related.

Viva La Vida

Hey readers, the new coldplay album is sick awesome so go listen to it.

I have not done much online the past couple weeks, I really need to win something to reagin my confidence. I ft-ed the 109r on friday on stars and ft-ed the 200 FO on UB last wed, but that has been all.

I have been playing real well in the 2500 WSOP events and getting 20-30k stacks and then just cant seem to make the jump to 40-50k. I played the 6max 2500 event 30 on monday and got 170th place with 109 cashing. We start with 5k in chips and I got up to 24k or so by the 200 400 level. I will briefly describe a few of the hands which I played that led to my demise.

1. at 150 300 bruno fitussi limps utg, and utg plus1 limps, utg+2 shoves all in for 4400 and it folds to me in the BB with 22k and AJo. I debated this for a minute or so and really felt like I had the best hand and I knew that Bruno and UTG+1 were limping with marginal hands. I called and sheepishly turned over my AJ, only to have the jammer flip up 109o. The board ran out 105462 and I doubled him.

2. Folds to me in the SB with 15k at 200 400 and Bruno is in the BB with about 2800. I look down at KQo and I announce allin. He looks at one card, the Ac and calls. His other card is the 5c and it ran out AhQc7h6c3c to give him the nuts.

3. At 300 600 blinds, folds to me on the button with Ah9d. I have 8900(just under 15 bbs) and I decide with the bb’s stack at only 5k and Bruno playing super aggressive against the shorter stacks at the table, the best line is to raise call. I made it 2.5x and Bruno announced all in. I debate for quite some time given that it was for my tournament life and decided that his range consists of hands like QK QJ any Ax any pair and possibly even suited connectors. (he had been playing suited connectors quite a bit..) I decided that I am ahead of his range with A9o and although its a marginal spot, It was a good spot for me to double. I called and he flips up 3c3h. He said good call and I stood up feeling like I was a 20% favorite LOL. the board came Q10102J GG me. 170th place.

Hope all of you are having luck at the tables and playing with confidence and a positive outlook.

Take care

LIVE Poker?

Hey bluff readers, I am sitting here at 11:38 Vegas time about to play the 100t with Like7, Bhanks11 and USCPhildo. We are doing a 100 dollar last longer bet on this tournament and we are just hanging out and relaxing. Bhanks took 5th in the 2500 WSOP NLHE event today for a cool 178k and I railed him last night till 4:30 am and then today from the start of the final table until he took a bad beat with AK to 78ss on As5sKh……..sigh.

So I am trying to make adjustments to my game so that I can be a profitable and successful live player. I have been much more patient recently seeing that I not only see a much lower frequency of hands but also have to make a lot more folds, and a lot less 3 bets. So my first two events, I have busted in the 3rd and 4th levels of play and have been super card dead. I havent taken any huge bad beats and havent had any significant suckouts, but I just havent found myself in good spots to get my chips in the middle. My next event is the 2k NLHE event on Thursday, wish me luck.

Vegas to me in two words can be described as a lucrative grind. I find myself not only out of shape more and more but also I am physically, mentally and spiritually exhausted. I cannot imagine how dreadful it would be to live here. This is a strict business trip/semi-vacation for me which Ihope provides me with some good experiences and some more money in my pocket, But that is ALL……

This city is not for me, in a nutshell.

Anyways gl on the tables and thanks for reading.

Hi there Vegas

So I landed in Vegas last night at about 11 pm(Vegas Time) and took a 70$ cab to Bhanks and Phildo’s house. I must say this place is the nuts, and we stayed up playing pool and discussing strategy till about 3 am. I am super confident that It will be an amazing learning experience to be around them and just to be in Vegas in general so for that I am super stoked.
I am so excited to play! I believe my first event is the 2k NL event tomorrow which grants us 4k chips to start at 25 50. I am going to make a lot of adjustments in my live game vs online but think I will make this transition quite smoothly. Man, I just thought about how its 8:47 am meaning that I only got about 5 hours of sleep, but to reiterate my point, IM SO FREAKING WIRED because I am finally here.

I am gonna be covered on P5′s live   www.pocketfiveslive.com as well as some of the other poker sites for live updates, pictures and such. Follow my play if you so decide and keep me in your prayers as I am out in this sinful city……….

Graduation time

So today I finished school and am now “college-educated.” It is a big day for me and although I am super excited to be done, I will miss a few things about this place I have called home for the past 4 years. I feel kinda nostalgic thinking about when I first came to college and all the experiences and lessons I have had about life, love and the pursuit of happiness…..

I have to wonder if I had not gone to FU, would I still have learned about poker and be where I am today?? Was it destiny for me to play or just a random occurence that has kept me from waiting tables the past 2 years? I am happy with who I am today and what life has taught me and I anxiously await the challenges which life will bring me regarding my career, my future wife, and my pursuit of God’s will.

SO anyways, Time to focus on poker for the next couple months, in Vegas and online and I think it will be an awesome experience. I have not played a ton online in the past week because I have had finals and other preoccupations. I have played 2 sessions of live 2-5 NL cash at a local game here in Gvegas. The first night I played I sat with 300 and left with 2340 after the sickest cash game session of my life……The biggest hand was when I binked a black 5 of spades on the river for a 1200 dollar pot. I got it in with 5h5d on a Kh Jh 7d Ah board against black AK. I offered him to cut a deal giving me and him fair equity but he rejected and got pummeled by the river. It felt nice to have a massive stack of reds and greens in front of me, given that I almost never play cash, especially live games.

The next session, I lost 500 due to a couple unlucky hands including JJ<J2ss on Jh 10s Qs 6s 7d board.

Anyways It gave me some live practice and chip practice, I hope to have massive stacks in at least a few WSOP events.
