Monte Carlo has been a blast this week. The tournament has been going well for me and it always fun to kick it with my poker buddies on the road. Its the last stop on the European Poker Tour and got a record 935 entrants for the 10.6k euro (~$14k) buy in.
After day the two day 1′s had finished I was sitting in about 20th of the 527 remaining with a 125k stack from the 30k starting stack. I came into day 2 feeling great. I had a great table draw to start the day off but unfortuantely they broke us about an hour in.
My second table was a bit more solid and i had the pleasure of sitting to Phil Laak’s left. He is QUITE the character let me tell ya. He was constantly chatting it up with rediculous antics which made the greuling grind of a full day of live poker seem to pass by a bit quicker.
I had some ups and downs today and was able to finish with 184,500 chips, which is an average stack. I feel great about the way I played today, I’m more focused determained to win than I have been in months. There are 149 players remaining heading into day 3 where we will play 8 handed until only 32 players remain, 88 of which will be getting paid. The minimum cash level I believe is like 20k euro and first is 2.6M euro.
The blinds will start off tomorrow at 2500/5000 with a 500 ante. Its safe to say with the limits rising and plenty of short stacks remaining that we will be in the money fairly quickly tomorrow. Check back for an update in 24hrs…

I’ve been on the road for a few days now and haven’t been grinding enough. Unfortunately I had prior commitments when I decided I would accept the Bluffmagazine and Lockpoker invitation to the Bluff Online Poker Challenge. I was able to satellite into the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament on Full Tilt and it appears that I’ll miss a few more days of grinding online for the challenge. This could hurt my chances of winning as Sno0owman has already created a significant gap in the standings but nonetheless I’ve got another shot a that all mighty $1Million first place prize of a WPT event!

With 19 hours of driving under my belt, my girlfriend Kenzie and I stopped off in Vegas for the night. I planned to suprise her with tickets The Beatles Love by Cirque Du Soleil but I spilled the beans about 1 hour into the drive and told her all the plans for the trip. The show was great and lived up to the hype! I would recommend it to anyone and I plan to see another Cirque Du Soleil show when I’m back in Vegas this summer.

We stayed in a sweet suite at Bellagio which I am adding a short video walkthrough of the room and an update clip from the road but I’m having issues with the videos importing so they will be up as soon as I figure out the issue.

I play day 1B tomorrrow and I am about to go check out the casino and see how the turnout is shaping up for day 1A today.

Unfortunately I busted the MCOP main event on day 2, it’s a little disappointing but there is a big online weekend ahead and I’m sure I can find a way to stay busy here in Amsterdam. I plan to play FTOPS events 19, 21, 22, 24, and 25 over the weekend along with the other weekly majors and fly back home on Monday.

I made an exciting last longer bet with rusostreet in the Poker Stars $100 rebuy tournament on Wednesday. At the time he had about 50k to my 25k so I asked for 3:2 odds. It was an up and down battle but my 15th place finish was enough for the victory. Most of my profits for the night came from my Full Tilt nightly $150 final table where I finished in 5th for $7,500.

If I had cashed in the MCOP or won a little more online I probably would have joined my buddies for EPT Warsaw this weekend but I think my decision to play the FTOPS main event and the $5k shorthanded tournaments will prove to be profitable. I want to wish Alex Bolotin, Kenny Hicks, Danny Ryan, and Aditya Agarwal best of luck in Warsaw. Congratulations to Russ Crane on his $100k score in the Borgota $2k and Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy for winning FTOPS Event #15.

The MCOP main event started today at 3pm local time. I arrived a couple hours late to the tournament because I played the FTOPS $1k from 3-8am. It’s a rough schedule but its only for the week. I finished day 1 with 17k up from the starting stack of 12k but under the average. I believe there were about 340 entrants and half the field has dropped so the average is ~24k. There are more weak players than I imagined for it being about a $9,300 USD entry tournament.

The trip has been great so far, I’m staying with my buddy Adi, he goes by “Intervention” online. With so much poker going we haven’t been able to do too much around the city but we have visited some worth mentioning. First of all if you come here you have to get breakfast at Barney’s Uptown. The food is great with a touch I’ve never seen. They served baked beans on the plate with my normal fried eggs, hash browns, and bacon. A great combo followed up with a chocolate milkshake, it was the tits as far as breakfast goes.

I’ve met a lot of guys that I run into in the online tournaments which is always a fun part of traveling. New faces I’ve met so far have been Riverman1, Imperium, Moorman1, Rubenrtv and many more. Catching up with Danny “The D r y” Ryan was probably the most fun though I’ve got to say. He is a fun guy to chat with and somewhat of a modern hippie the way he speaks of the Earth, nature, life& It is nice to talk about something other than poker now and then.

My favorite part of the trip was a couple of nights ago just kicking it in the room with Adi, Sorel, and Danny and the discussions that arose. We are all from different backgrounds and cultures. Sorel was raised in Canada, Adi is from India, and Danny is from Minnesota although currently lives somewhere in Spain I believe. We discussed religion, government, politics, and most of all the election. I rarely discuss these topics and don’t find it easy to do so. Interesting things happen when you sit around a circle to spark some of the Dam’s finest.

I’ll be back with a day 2 update tomorrow.

October was a great month online across the board. I had multiple wins namely the Sunday $150 rebuy tournament on Full Tilt for $57k. On Poker Stars I won a $14k PCA package the $40k Guarantee for $7k. I was also able to final table the $300 Wednesday Quarter Million finishing 7th not one but two weeks in a row for a couple more $8k scores on stars! This seemed to spark a back to back mentality for me as I won the FTP $17k Guarantee consecutive days for a combined $10k and a run at another Triple Crown.

I added some volume on Ultimate Bet for the third leg and got another victory in the $30r unfortunately it only had 99 entrants, one short of the required 100 for the crown. I didn’t let this get me down and was able to get heads up in the same tournament the next night coming ever so close to my second Triple Crown but fell short finishing runner up.

Just as the calendar has rolled over to November it seems my poker heater will parallel. On the first of the month I final tabled the PS $100r fizzling out 9th losing a 60/40 race. I fared better in the Full Tilt $300 6max tournament with a 3rd place finish for $11k.

I am leaving for Amsterdam tomorrow for the Master Classics of Poker series where I plan to play two or three tournaments. The first live event I will play is a ¬1000 with one optional rebuy. I might play the ¬2500 second chance tournament but only if I bust early in the ¬600 Main Event on Nov. 11th. There should be about 400 entrants in each of these tournaments so it will be well worth missing a few of the FTOPS tournaments to play live.

That’s right, the Full Tilt Online Poker Series is back again with one alteration. FTOPS X will feature 25 events and over $15 Million in guaranteed prize money and a new two day $5k 6max event with a $2M guarantee. The series run from Nov. 5th – 16th so I will be in the Dam for its entirety and plan to play up to 14 of the events.

The past five days have gone by fast. I’ve spent three days on the beach and managed to bust the $5,500 main event on the last level of day 1. I had built a great image at the table and had everyone wanting to bust me. Things were going well as I built my stack from the starting 15k up to over 40k. In the last level of the day with blinds 200/400 with 50 ante I lost a rather large pot when I turned 66 into a bluff. A tight player raised to 1100 from early position, I called from middle position and we see a flop of Td8s3s. He led 1500 into me on the flop and I float called with my 6s6h. The turn brought a Js and he then checked to me. I decided to bluff since he slowed down and the board looked rough with the third spade coming on the turn so I bet 2800 which he called. The river was the 4c and he once again checked. I went for the kill and barreled another bet of 7500, just over half of his stack. He went into the tank for about 30 seconds as he counted he stack down and made the call with QhQd so I tabled my 66 bluff to keep the action coming.
The very next hand I looked down at AsAc and frustratingly raise it to 1100 and get two callers, a young kid on the button and Steven “Stevesbets” Jacobs in the big blind. Steve checked a flop of 9d7s2h to me so I continuation bet 2600, the button called and Steve raised 4k more. I thought for a brief moment, looked back at the player on the button who looked uninterested and then just called the raise, the button quickly mucked. Now heads up to the turn, Steve again checks to me when a 6 of spades came. I quickly announced, “I’m all-in” in hopes of looking like a last ditch effort of stealing the pot. Steve asked for a count so I cut my stacks down myself and told him that it was about 13k. He then called my shove and tabled 9hTc for one pair and an inside straight draw. The river binked a Td giving him a winning two pair and sigh of relief as he had hit one of his 9 outs. To put it simply I was 80% to win the hand but so goes poker&

Check back to hear about the $2k tournament and my upcoming trip to Amsterdam.

Haha seriously tho, I’ll probably grind Sunday online like always but I’ll have to see how strong the internet is…

I don’t have much information about the tournament but I know that it has a $4 Million guarantee with $1M to first. Which means they hope to get 800 players, I’m doubting it but we’ll see.

My comeback to online poker has been slow the last couple weeks only playing a few full days of tournaments. I haven’t done much to speak of aside from a $12k winner’s choice win on FullTilt. This past Sunday didn’t go too well and the week before was a huge letdown.
On the Sunday the 27th I cashed in 8 tournaments of $150 buy in or higher but only came out a small winner on the day. It felt great building massive stacks in what seemed every tournament I had entered but every one of them ended short of final tables. Getting that deep in so many and not turning any of them into a good nip is disappointing but oh well.

FTOPS IX kicks off tomorrow with a $200 buy in NL Holdem tournament with $1Million guaranteed. The tournament starts at 8pm central so I’m hoping to squeeze a movie in before it starts. If it’s not already sold out I plan to get some tickets online here in a bit to see Pineapple Express with my buddies. It opens in theaters tomorrow and I’ve been excited about the movie for weeks but I may have to wait until Friday night when the FTOPS has a stud tourney that I don’t care to play.

I recently saw Dark Knight and Step Brothers and recommend both. Dark Knight was quite long but I liked every minute of it and Step Brothers was the laugh out loud comedy you would expect. I felt like Will Ferrell’s recent movies were slipping with Semi Pro and Blades of Glory but he is back on point in this one with the hilarious John C. Reilly at his side. I’ll definitely be buying this one on DVD when it comes out.

I’ll let you know how Pineapple Express goes as well as the upcoming FTOPS tournaments.

With the dinner break of Day 6 winding down, I stroll out of my room on the 13th floor of Masquerade Tower at the Rio on the 13th of July. A Road Runner like cloud dissipates behind me as I make for the elevators where I find Phil Hellmuth and his wife. We share the ride down and some small chat, I ask his chip count and confirm that mine is about the same& Just before we reach the Ground Level I say, “We better hustle, we’ve got short time.” Short time is something I remember my dad yelling at me during my wrestling matches in high school. This was usually when I was trailing in the match and meant that I’d better try to throw a headlock and pin the kid before I lose the damned match. I feel it warrants mention because the years I spent wrestling helped in molding a competitive side in me.

Lights flash and we hear a ding as the elevator doors open. Phil and his veer right, I hear them discussing whether to cut through the high limit slot lounge or not. I take a southern route to the left as Phil and I slip through the crowd I see he does indeed take his ‘shortcut’ but as I’m walking at an incredible rate I met him on the other side just as he exits the rear of the lounge. It’s a dead heat and we’re now in the home stretch, a long corridor that leads to the convention area where the event was being held. We both knew that it was a not only a race against the tournament clock but a race between the two of us as well. This was one race I wasn’t about to lose, never mind the obvious disadvantage of being 5′10″ vs. PH’s 6′6″ stride. I’m not sure that he would ever admit to the loss he took that day and with no solid proof I don’t blame him but he and I both know who won. I saw the look of defeat in his eye as I peered over my shoulder and wiped my brow following our intense heat. This may have been the highlight of my summer and the count now stands 3-0 because I won a couple of pots against him in a previous tournament.

Let me fill you in about my history with Phil Hellmuth. I met PH in December of last year when I drew him and the living legend Doyle Brunson at my day two starting table of Bellagio’s $15k Five Diamond World Poker Classic. I’m not sure if he would remember me or not but I figure that PH, being the true champion he is, probably doesn’t forget much. We didn’t talk much but I remember him saying “You played well kid, got it in with the nuts” following my elimination. I had called a raise preflop with 77 in position and the big blind called as well. The flop came 9h7h4c when the BB checked the original raiser bet and I put it a large raise. The big blind then went all in and the better eventually folded his overpair and I was facing a race against his 8hTh. I got a clean turn card but the Jack or hearts on the river cracked my set giving my opponent a STRAIGHT FLUSH! It was a rough way to go out but I took a lot from Phil and Doyle that day and really enjoyed playing with them.

My series came to an end last Sunday after six weeks, fifteen tournaments, and a deep run in the Main Event where I was eliminated in 31st place for $193k. It was the best experience of my life. Sure it has been tough to stomach at times when I think back about what could have been, but at the same time I realize that $200k to me, a grinder, is potential future fortunes and I am proud of my accomplishment.

It’s hard to explain what I have gone through, not just in the six days of play but in the past year or so when I feel my training for this tournament really began. My friends and family know how much time and effort I’ve given to the game lately and it feels good to get the monkey off my back and get a nice score in a live tournament. I’m anxious to see how much coverage I will get on ESPN after three days of feature tables too&
My trip home with my buddies Reed and Peel was full of excitement and a wild lightning storm that nearly struck us. Just after crossing into Colorado I remember noticing what looked to be broken glass all over I-70 but had no choice but to drive over it. There were actually two patches of littered road with what we later found out to be nails. As luck would have it I came through just after a trucker had lost some of his load, boxes and boxes of nails. The car began to handle a bit squirrely before the left rear tire completely blew out. My immediate instincts were to put the spare on but quickly realized that the other rear tire had a leak and was falling fast. We were able to get some assistance from the highway patrol who called a tow company who dropped the car at Sears and us at Holliday Inn.

Finally some rest right? Try SOLD OUT, lasdjf l;adsgh alkjs g! Not only were they sold out but the entire city of Grand Junction nearly was as well. Dialing through about twenty numbers on my hotel call list I found a room that I was able to check into an hour later. Apparently taxis aren’t the fastest in Grand Junction and some even come with a dog for a copilot.

The next morning Sears told me they couldn’t get to my flats until 4. Since there was a theatre within walking distance we burned the day away with the movie WALL-E, which wasn’t that great. The Olive Garden was however on point. The salad, breadsticks, and my stuffed chicken marsala really turned my day around. We were back on the road again, through the Eisenhower Tunnel over the Continental Divide and into Denver. This is the best part of the drive, the winds, curves, and drastic elevation changes are more exciting than the slow rolling plains of the Kansas prairie.

I’m back home now and celebrating my brother’s 27th birthday. It started last night with a rock band jam session at the Budke’s then a party bus of 3 birthdays and a crowd of 25+. We ended the night bar hoping in the Kansas City Power and Light District. It’s a got a cool setup with a cluster of new bars that surround a central ‘beer garden’ patio area. It’s booming with new establishments and of course the Sprint Center.

While I was in Vegas an addition was made to my household, an 11 week old boxer puppy named Cassius. He’s a cute little guy but he thinks he’s tough. We’re still working on establishing his play toys from my flip flops.

That’s enough for now, check back for stories of dinner with Victor Ramdin and some hands we played as well as a story about beating Phil Hellmuth in a race!

Once again, just a quick update because of the need for sleep. My table for day 5 was by far the toughest I’ve had all tournament with Adam “Roothlus” Levy and Alexander Kostritsyn. Alex is the russian kid who won Aussie Millions earlier this year and is far and above the best opponent I’ve ever played against. He took some rough beats and found some tough spots today and I eventually busted him in around 80th. On his final hand he opened for 65,000 and I called on the button. The flop came and when he checked, I bet 90,000. Alex counted out his chips 395,000, and moved all in. I spent about four minutes in the tank running his range through my head and calculating how big the pot was, how much of my stack it was to make the call… and finally I made the call to see that my were ahead of his . I was able to fade the turn and river when they came .

I’m sitting in 30th of 79 remaining players and I’m feeling great. My stack is at 1.86 million slightly above the average. The blinds start at 15k/30k with a 4k ante tomorrow at noon…

I spent the second half of the day at the main feature table with a solid lineup including Victor Ramdin(1.3M) and Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal (800k). It was an up and down day bottoming at 110k early and peaking over 700k a couple times. I finished the day with a solid 515k and only 189 players remain. I’m gonna do some work tomorrow.

After three days of play we reached the money. The bubble burst in level 14 and 666 players made the guaranteed 21k minimum payday and of course over $9M to first. I finished the day with 192k from my starting 159k, progress&
My first table broke in the first 15 minutes but I didn’t feel like listening to Mike Matusow talk about himself all day and he was on my direct left. I then got moved to a table with Matt Matros on my direct left who is blindly aggressive and probably re-raise ten times in one level. This table once again broke and I was moved to a table full of monstrous stacks. I had the sixth largest stack with 200k at the time but I did have position on Matros after the move. Wouldn’t you know it, this table broke an hour later. My last table for the day was the most fun of them all with Darren dabadestchic Nelson, Tim “Tmay420″ West and Full Tilt pro Allen Cunningham.

We start play at 1 tomorrow at level 16 blinds of 2500/5000/500. Some of my college buddies (Reed, Patrick, Talon, Peel) are coming into town in the next day or two as well so it should be a fun week. Just a few more days of work left&

Day 1 of the WSOP Main Event was grueling to say the least. I spent the entire night previous running back and forth to the restroom, a victim of food poisoning. With a lack of sleep and feeling like death, I showered up and strolled down to my table to find out we were moved to the featured table. My table wasn’t too tough but it did include one Mr. Phil Ivey, the obvious reasoning for being the featured table. The rail was thick with Ivey fans sporting t-shirts and buttons as if they were his proud parents. It was all in all a fun experience being mic’d up and having cameras continuously rolling.

The madness all came to and end when Ivey was eliminated in the third level. The big hand that he lost the majority of his stack on was much like a hand that I played in level 5. Phil made a raise from the two hole, the button and big blind called. On a Jh8s6s flop the BB checked and Phil bet and was called by both players. The turn brought a Js and Phil made a pot sized bet of 6k which was called by the player in the BB. The river was a K of diamonds and the player once again checked to Phil who set him all in. The player made the call with J8 for a full house and Phil tabled As5s for the nut flush leaving him with a short stack.

My big double up hand as I said came in level 5 with blinds 200/400 with a 50 ante. I had just chipped up by taking down a couple of smaller pots increasing my stack from 16k to 25k when this hand played out& I opened to 1400 from under the gun with Ah8h and was called by a new player to the table with a stack of about 32k. The flop brought KdTh7h so I lead out for 2k. My opponent took a stack of 1k yellow chips and look to be making a raise but just called. I turned the nut flush when a K of hearts peeled off. After leading out for 3.5k my opponent threw out his orange and yellow chips raising it to 15k. I immediately shoved my stack and was called by Jh9h for a smaller flush. He did however have a double gutter straight flush draw but I had his 8h so I just had to dodge the Qh and did when the river brought a third king. I was now up to over 50k and the night was nearing an end.

My final chip count after day 1 is an about average 54,300. I am very happy with my stack after grinding through the day physically weak and psychologically drained. I am going to take advantage of my two day break by getting plenty of sleep and hopefully get back to eating square meals again.

This $100k day was just what I needed online and really helps my psyche heading into the WSOP Main Event in a week.

I’d like to thank all my friends for the good wishes on AIM, texts and calls and to all those railing at my final tables, I appreciate the encouragement. Also congratulations to Marco CrazyMarco Johnson for his second place finish in event #48. I’ve got to get some sleep for tomorrow’s $1500NL event #52&

So far this summer I’ve played in twelve events and have two cashes that total about $28k making me as even as it gets at the WSOP. It’s nice to have free rolled my summer of preliminary tournaments but I’m definitely hungry for a final table and a shot at a bracelet. Tomorrow I’ll be playing Event #49 $1500NL which should get over 3,000 players. This and Event #52 $1500NL on Monday are my last two shots until the Main Event. I’ve already preregistered for the three and chose Main Event starting day 1D, Sunday July 6th.

My run in Event #39 crumbled late on day two. I had a lot of fun floping a couple of sets, raking in pots, stacking up chips but eventually I was eliminated in 21st place receiving $17,450 for the effort. I had a similar run at a final table last year in a $1500NL 6max tournament so I knew how it felt unfortunately it stung just as much this time as the last. Things are on the up and up for sure and I feel more comfortable at the table than I ever have. The transition from online to live poker is more complex than it seems. The games play very differently but I’m coming around and it’s getting to close to crunch time.

Things should slow down in the middle of next week so look for another post then, in the meantime you can following updates on pocketfiveslive.com for events 49 and 52…

I’m not too sure how many players are remaining of the 2720 who started but I think is around 200, possibly less. We are well into the money with 270 cashing and still battling for the $600k+ payday.

It’s been over a week since my last post, again, and I’m feeling a little guilty about my lack of updates. I’ll try to do a better job of updating over the next month. I had an interesting event #17, the $1500 triple shootout. My first Table had a few players that I recognized including Amnon Filippi, Michael Gratz, and Fred Goldberg. It was a reasonable structure and finished much quicker than I expected. Here are a couple hands from the round.
Eliminated Amnon:
Second position raised to 700 at 100/200 I smooth called with AA right behind him. Amnon shoved on the button instantly when it got to him for about 4200. My aces held when the raiser folded what he said to be KQ. He was left with 1750 in chips after his laydown.

Eliminated Gratz:
It folds to Gratz in the small blind and he completes at 150/300/50. I raise 1100 more with AK from the big blind and he quickly goes all in. I call to see his QJ off suit, with an ace on the flop I held for another 7k+ pot and a commanding chip lead over the table.

Having half the chips and five handed at this point I was able to make quick work and win round one and a guaranteed $5700. Being one of the first few tables to finish I knew I would have a long break before my next table would start so I got a bite to eat and went back to the house for the wait. My roommate Tom West had also won his first table and would later go on to final table the event finishing in 8th.

Round Two
With a table of unknowns I was excited to start round two. I was able to set up a big pot with the guy I spotted as the softest seat. The set up occurred on a hand that I made a late position raise to 1800 at 300/600/100 with 77. I made the same raise the hand before this and took it down pre flop, the big blind decided to aggress back making it 4k to go. I quickly called the raise and saw the flop of Q93 rainbow. My opponent made a weak lead of 3100 so I pumped it up to 8k, I wasn’t about to let this chatty guy build a stack early. He folded his AK face up and I showed him the sevens. I don’t like to show my hands often but I felt this was the type of player who would go out of his way to get back at me.

One level later at 400/800/100 I saw a flop from the big blind four ways with 77 again. A dream flop of Qs7h5d came and it checked around to the guy from the previous hand so he bets 2500. The field cleared when I check raised to 7200, will he bite? Will he bite…? Snag, he announces all in and bam, a set in his face and no sweatin it vs. his Q6 top pair. I took this early chip lead all the way down to a three handed battle that lasted what seemed days. It was 6:40am before it was all said and done, a marathon session ending with the bitter taste of 2nd place. I lost to a kid from St. Louis area named Rory Monahan. He went on to place 4th at the final table for 82k, 10% going to yours truly! My cash and swap monies put me right around even for the series.

Keep checking in for more WSOP updates…

My starting table in today’s Event 13 was a fun one. I had position on my buddy Andy “BKiCe” Seth as well as Gavin Smith and two solid Europeans guys but I could tell that “twin-caracas” on my immediate left was going to be a thorn in my side. I pickup up both queens and aces early on and eventually went bust with eights to nines in the second level. Here’s how the hands played out&

With right at my starting stack of 5k in front of me and only a few hands into the tournament I look down at QQ in the big blind after the two hole had opened for a small raise at 25/50 blinds to 125 and four people had called. I made a fat raise to 600 which got the original raiser out somewhat quickly. The first caller, Gavin Smith, announces a raise to 1600 and it folded to me. I figured it could have looked like a squeeze on my part and that Gavin’s range was wide enough that QQ wasn’t foldable, after all he had played about every third hand he was dealt and done so aggressively. I shoved my stack in only to see that I was in bad shape against his KK. I was left with 1350 chips after the hand.

An orbit later a weak player limped under the gun which started a chain reaction. There were four limpers total to me when I looked down at a delicious AA. I hadn’t seen aces live yet this series and this proved to be a good time for them since I had already lost most of my chips. With only 1050 chips I made a 5x raise to 250 and of course everyone called as I figured would be the case. The flop was clean for the most part reading Qc7c5d. The action went check, check to Gavin who bet 900 into the pot of around 1500. I called all in for my last 800 chips, the UTG player called the 900. I got a great turn card pairing the bottom card on the board with the 5 of hearts. Gavin fires another 1k chip at the side pot when checked to, getting us heads up. There was a good chance he could have a combo draw but more often than not he is holding top pair here. I was relieved to see he held QT and I was able to more than triple up and was back to a playable stack.

One level later with blinds 50/100 I played a couple of pots but was shoved off of what turned out to be the best hand in one pot. I don’t feel like I played the hand poorly but I sure could have played it differently. I opened the pot to 350 in early middle with AK after one guy had limped. Gavin called out of the small blind and the limper called as well. The flop was K63 rainbow and we all checked, the turn a J of hearts. Once again both players checked to me and I bet 625. Gavin calls the bet then the older guy (plays Tunica cash games primarily) raised 1300 more with only 1100 behind after his raise. It was such a strong bet I didn’t feel like he was making that move with a turned flush draw so my one pair didn’t look quite so strong but I had shown much strength so I was still thinking about putting it in. I looked over at Gavin who seemed pretty interested in the hand and looked like he was going to at least call. Confused a bit and almost sure I had to be beat, I folded. Gavin went ahead and made the call but when the river was a blank both players checked and Gavin says “You got it.” The tunica guy drags the pot tabling QQ, als;dkfjlaskdfjlk. I’m not sure what Gavin had but apparently he just made a bad call with a flush draw that whiffed&

I was eliminated soon after when again the soft spot in the one seat limped under the gun. The younger of the two European guys raised it to 400 and “Mr. Tunica” called. I squeezed out two 8’s on the button and shovel-caked my 1350. The limper tanked his decision for well over a minute before making the call and the others both folded. Once again I was notched by pocket 9’s and sports book bound to try and catch the Belmonte Stakes and Big Brown’s hunt for the Triple Crown.

Tonight is looking like a few online tournaments and the same for tomorrow. I registered for events 17 and 23 today to avoid lines later this week. Event 17 is a $1500 NL shootout on Monday and event 23 is a $2k NL on Thursday. Time to grind online&

I took it easy today and didn’t wake up until a little past noon. Biggies had busted from the Venetian $500 so I picked him up and stopped by Fashion Show Mall on the strip. The chinese place at the food court was a let down but I did get a few shirts from Lacoste and Express so it was a successful trip. The day heated up when I got to the Rio and found that Tmay was four handed in the WSOP $5k shootout and Shannon Shorr was at the final table of Event 7. Congrats to Shannon for taking 2nd, it’s no bracelet but the $350k score is nice indeed. Tmay went on to get heads up and eventually overtake Sable Cohen for a first round victory and $17k guaranteed minimum cash. He will play a six handed table tomorrow and if all goes well he will be spending Sunday at the final table.

Later in the evening Tmay, Biggies and I stopped by to hang out at Bryn Kenney’s summer house. He is staying with a few others including Will “wuddacooler” Hayden, Alex AK87 Kim, Nikki Br& – NeVV Giampa, Tony (last name I didn’t catch), and Haffa better known as hafizzle. It was a fun crowd, some familiar faces and some new. I didn’t fare too well in ping pong losing a hundy to Will, he was a definite favorite but I wanted some action. I lost 19-21 after being down 10-19. I made a valiant comeback effort but couldn’t finish it out. I was able to make a pretty penny on the pool table though. I took Adam “Akat11″ Katz for a few hundred in some 8 ball games and barely beat Chad “lilholdem954″ Batista for a hundred as well. I had the edge on Adam but I’m not sure about Chad, I think he may give me some trouble next time we play…

Tomorrow’s WSOP event is a $2500NL and I’m sure the attendance will be greater than the last few because it is on a weekend. Hopefully I can roll this good night of prop bet wins into tomorrow and build a nice stack.

I got in to Sin City a few days ago after a 20 hour drive that I split into a three day trip. I was only able to make it 30 miles down the road where I stopped off in Lawrence to see a few friends before leaving town, which turned into bowling and few beers. I hadn’t seen the lanes in months and didn’t have my bowling gear either but with some $3 house shoe rentals and my buddy Kev’s strike ball I chalked up a clean game of strikes and spares and my career high, a 245! I believe my previous high game was 238 but my average is only around 150 so I was having a good night for sure.

Somehow I convinced my friend Ryan into joining me on the cross-country drive. We were able to knock off 8 hours of before stopping off for the night in Denver. He wanted to catch up with a friend from high school which was cool with me because she happened to have two couches we could crash on which seemed crucial at the time. The next morning we met up with another one of our college buddies C.J. who took us to a local joint for some delicious breakfast before we burned through the rest of Colorado all of Utah a bit of Arizona and finally Nevada. Since arriving I’ve taken a couple days off and played two WSOP tournaments as well as a couple full days online. I busted both Event #2, a $1,500NL tournament and Event #5, a $1k rebuy. My busts out hands from each event are posted below as well as another key hand I played in Event 5. Online has been going well and I was able to win two more WSOP main event packages this week, one on Bodog and the other on Full Tilt.

I’ve got a few golf bets coming up but the terms are still being discussed so I’ll get to that later. Tonight I took a thousand off Tim in some billiards but he quit betting me when I pocketed the 8 ball on the break to win a $400 game, WEEE! I guess the prop betting is off to a good start. I’m stuck a couple hundred to Biggies but he’s a fish in 9ball so I’m sure I can get it back. Time to catch up on Lost before I get too far behind and I think there is a new episode that I’ll miss tomorrow for the $1,500NL 6max Event #9, hope I get a good table draw.

Event #2 busto hand
I was dealt 77 in middle position and shoved for 4300 at 200/400/50. It folded around to the big blind who quickly called with QQ. I remember the gentleman next to me say I feel like a 7, and sure enough a 7 came on the flop! Before I could react a Q peeled off on the turn and it was good game me.

Event #5 QQ vs Frank Round42
With blinds 200/400/50 Round42 raised to 1100 and I smooth call in position with red Queens. The flop drops down Jd7c2d, he checks and I bet 2k, he thinks and calls. The turn is a low brick card, a so I bet 4800 when he checked. He asks my remaining chip stack and I have just under 12k left behind. He shoves it and I quickly call, he sighs as he flips 99 for a pair of 9s. I HOLD! 40k+

Busto with AcQs (Doink)
Early position raises to 2800ish I jam all in from the button with what I thought to be 15k+ but as I did just take a hand down and I actually had just over 19k. Anyhow, David DavidP18 Peters deliberates for a bit and shoves from SB and the original raiser shoves as well. DavidP18 holds AhAd and the other fellow QQ. I flop a shot at 60k+ with a 9high all spade flop but was unable to hit my Q high flush draw. How I was able to flop outs when nearly dead is beyond me, all I know is I had better get there next time I decide to play this poorly. At the time I felt that if I smooth called there was a good chance that someone would call behind as well and that if I reraised I was committing my stack, so I shoved.

Live and learn,

I began packing for my seven week trip to Vegas for the WSOP today and its all that I thought I would be. The laundry and messes around my house have been piling up due to my recent overload of online tournaments (FTOPS) and its time to catch up on it. Hopefully I’ll get a good start on this today because I plan to play a full schedule online on Sunday and tomorrow I’ll be attending my Cousin Jared’s wedding.

I set out on a 20 hour drive on Monday en route to my summer rental house. I’ll be staying in the house with three buddies for the month of June; Tim “Tmay420″ West, Tom “SBRounder” West, and Sean “Biggies05″ Johnson. In July I plan to move in to a suite at the Rio for the Main Event. I’m in desperate need of a vacation and some time away from the homestead and excited to hang out with my poker buddies that I haven’t seen since my last couple of World Poker Tour trips to LAPC and Foxwoods.

Now I’m going to enjoy the smell of fresh cut grass and start reading a new book, This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession. It caught my eye at Borders the other day so I figure I can drop poker for a day or two to see what its about&
