I’ve taken more time off the past couple of weeks than I took from June to December combined. Back in June I decided to make winning the Bluff OPOY a goal for the rest of the year. At that point I was in the top five for the year and decided my best chance to win was to out-grind everyone else in the top five. I didn’t exactly stick my toe in the water before I dove right in. I played the next 60 days straight…took two days off and played the next 30 days in a row. From that point on I probably averaged about one day off every two weeks. Most days I worked 12-16 hours. I was playing every tournament under the sun with a $50 buy-in or more including all the non-hold’em games. The day to day aspect, the time invested everyday and the fact that I was a hold’em player trying to learn other disciplines on the fly was a huge mental challenge. I grinded it out as hard as I could, but to be honest in hindsight I know I was coasting/not playing my best/asleep at the wheel for a lot of tournaments. During that period I piled up the Bluff points and had some decent results, but not the kind that I expect from myself. The whole process definitely took a toll on me on and off the felt…I know, “cry me a river.” Fast forward six months and it looks like I’m in good shape to win…knock on wood. I’ve built a pretty substantial lead which afforded me the opportunity to take some much needed time off.

The time off was really nice…I’m feeling really good on and off the felt. The batteries are charged more than they have been in quite a while. Lately I’ve made a ton of final tables/had some really good results. On Stars I finished 2nd in the $100 cubed turbo, FT’ed the $50 rebuy 3 times including a 4th in the inflated Sunday version, and had several other nice finishes. On UB, Bodog and Cake I won 5-6 smaller tournaments. I also had a 3rd in one of Cakes Sunday majors. All those results were nice, but more importantly I went on a huge tear on Full Tilt. It seems like I’ve been making final tables on Full Tilt every time I sit down. I won a turbo cashout, chopped a $60K guarantee heads up and shipped the $150 rebuy on Sunday. As confirmation of how good I’ve been running, I also shipped a $30K guar super turbo. The $150 rebuy was definitely one of my all time favorite wins. First place was my second biggest score to date, but it was really satisfying because late in the game it’s a deepstacked tournament with a lot of great players. I felt like I played some really good poker from the time we were 3 tabled on down. It obviously felt really good to come out with a win against top notch competition in that kind of spot.

The moral of the story is balance is crucial to being a successful poker player. Obviously balance within the game/mixing up your play is essential. That being said, a healthy balance between your table time and personal life might be even more critical. It’s not just my recent results that lead me to this conclusion, it’s also that I feel so good at the tables and actually want to play every time I’m playing. For any proven winner, feeling good + playing well = profits…a little run good also never hurts, obv.

Happy Holidays and good luck at the tables.

I’ve been playing as much as ever lately. I’m involved in a big team points contest on PocketFives. There are a lot of great players involved. For the contest there are ten teams of five players apiece. At the end of the ten day contest period, each team uses their top thirty points scores with a max of ten scores for any individual contestant. It’s been interesting to see all these great players put in a lot of volume. Needless to say the online fields were a lot tougher man for man during the contest. Unless my team hits a full court buzzer beater we’re done. Honestly the contest really hasn’t changed my schedule that much but it was definitely entertaining to keep up with while playing the past couple of weeks. Also, the FTOPS kicked off this week. I’ve bricked everything so far but hopefully I can circle the wagons and hit something big this weekend. There are still several great events left on the schedule…bink it one time!!!
Since my last blog I’ve had some good results. I shipped a 6 handed $100K, a UB $20K and a couple of smaller tournaments. I had top 3 finishes in a $100 rebuy on Full Tilt, a Bodog Poker Open event, a $40K on Tilt, etc etc…It all runs together. Today I took down the $30K KO and a $6K HA. I finished 3rd in the $40K on Tilt and had approximately 100 min cashes including the $1K buy-in on UB. Weeeeeeee…
My two most interesting finishes were probably the 6 handed $100K on Tilt and a 19th in the Sunday $150 re-buy on Tilt. The $100K win was interesting because I took a chop for the first time ever. I’ve always declined chops but it felt right in this tournament for a few reasons. At the time I had about 18 bb’s and the two guys to my left had about 18 bb’s as well. They both seemed like good aggro players, making the whole situation extremely volatile. I was also chip lead shorthanded at another good final table and getting a little tired. When I considered the volatility/other action/my energy level the chop seemed like the play. After the chop I insta-busted the other FT and shipped this one. I’ve hated myself ever since but that’s probably results oriented thinking which is a no-no. The $150 re-buy 19th was interesting due to my bust hand. I had about 65ish bb’s for a top 5 stack. My table was playing 6 handed. I opened utg 1 with AQ and the only guy that had me covered flatted the button. This seemed like business as usual as I was opening a fair amount and the player on the button was playing a lot of pots. A good aggro player in the big blind shipped his 20 bb stack. At this point I felt like I was way ahead of the flat from the button and the squeeze from a thinking player in the big blind. I iso shoved with my AQ with little thought and didn’t hold against the button’s AA.. Pretty huge cooler. given the previous action, the pattern in this hand, and the fact that he was the only guy that had me covered at the table. I’m pretty sure I’m burning money if I don’t shove there…oh well. The great thing about the internet is you can always fire up another one.
In more important news, my Clemson Tigers beat up on FSU Saturday night. If we win out in conference we will play ACC Championship in Tampa sometime in December. That’s a road trip I want to take. Hopefully we can avoid the trap games and take it down.
Good luck at the tables,
Jeremy

I’ve had a pretty good week, on and off the felt. Off the felt, I’ve played a lot less this week. I actually took a couple of days off for a change. I re-introduced myself to the general public which is always kind of odd after staring at the computer day after day. I went out and shot some pool and had some laughs. I also read a couple books. I finished One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, then I started and finished Rogue Warrior by Richard Marcinko. Marcinko started Seal Team Six and is quite possibly the most hard core individual to ever walk the earth. Reading about his life experiences makes poker seem less taxing to say the least. Both are interesting reads. I even managed a bubble bath this week. Life is good…Mr. Bubbles ftw.

Now for the poker. The week was full of all the standard ups and downs. But I did have some nice highlights…

Last Saturday I finished 3rd in the Stars $100 1r1a turbo. I won a few big races down the stretch and made a couple timely leverage plays deep. In the end my AK got freerolled. Getting freerolled is always bad enough but this one was a little worse than normal because I ran into the other big stack when the third guy was crippled. Nothing I could do. These things happen and it all evens out in the end. If you worry about things you can’t control, the game will eat you up.

Today I shipped the $162 $50K guar on Stars. The prize pool was almost double the guar…gotta love the weekends. I had a lot of tables, looked up and I was three tabled with a stack. It seemed like there were a lot of inexperienced players deep so I was able to three bet regularly and chip up relatively easily. There were also a few very strong players left but I was able to avoid tricky spots with the psychos. I got head up with a nice chip lead and promptly bluffed it away. The guy wouldn’t fold so I basically just started using pot size value bets when I had it. He continued to call so I regained control. In the end, my AK held vs his AJ. I’m such a rock…always nice when it works out.

I’ll check back in soon…hope ya’ll have a good week.

Hey guys. I hope everything is good.
Poker was a rollercoaster today. I had a 5th in the $50 re-buy turbo and 3rd in the $100 2r 1a on Stars. I had 8th in the Nightly on UB. I also two tabled the Stars Nightly along with a couple others. I have to win a couple tomorrow to make up for all the close calls.
While I was grinding today I noticed I have an absurd amount of points saved up on all the sites. The only thing I can remember ever spending points on is the Stars security token which I highly recommend. You can’t ever be too careful when It comes to protecting your accounts.
Now that I’ve started looking around the stores on the different sites these points are burning a hole in my pocket. I’m considering doing most of my holiday shopping with the points. I know my girlfriend wants a camera so I’m thinking about getting the Canon Rebel. I think I could get gadgets and gizmos for pretty much all my family and friends without having to fight crowds and actually shop for gifts this year. Sounds like a good deal! On the other hand, I’m about to finish my basement and I think I could furnish it with electronics through points. I had my eye on the 60” flat screen, etc. Watching the games in style courtesy of Stars sounds fun. Anyhow, I’m just looking for some good values…I’d appreciate suggestions/warnings in the comments section.
Hopefully, I’ll have some stuff to talk about/wins to brag about in a few days. Until then…good luck at the tables.
Take em down,

It’s been quite a while since I wrote my introductory blog, but I’ve been playing a ton and haven’t taken time to sit down and write anything.
WCOOP on Poker Stars just recently ended. I had some deep runs, but nothing too special. I final table bubbled 1k Monday on Full Tilt. I’ve won some smaller tournaments though, so basically I’m just treading water every day…that’s how it goes sometimes…I’ll live.
I’m a big fan of college football and especially Clemson football. I wasn’t able to go to the game yesterday since I was playing. It wasn’t on TV so I couldn’t just set the DVR to watch it later. Initially I was thinking I would just have to settle for watching highlights later. The game was on espn 360 and I figured out late Friday night that you could run replays of games. Last night when I finished for the day I was able to watch the replay around 12 or 1am with my girlfriend and a buddy. 80,000 people were in town and I was able to avoid hearing anything about the game despite living just 10 miles away from the stadium. Since we knew we were going to watch the game, we decided to grill steaks and have a couple of beers. My girlfriend went to the grocery store to pick up all of the necessary supplies and came back with the biggest rib-eyes I’ve ever seen. These steaks were 2 lbs a piece and about 3 inches thick and we grilled them to perfection. We had a great meal and watched the game. Unfortunately, the tigers lost but it was almost to be expected. We’ve got a new coach this year and I’m not expecting magic overnight. Although “tailgating” at midnight in front of a computer is non-standard it’s great for me and I’d recommend 360 to any poker players that want to watch the games.
I’m in the middle of the Sunday grind and getting busy so I better focus on the tables.
Take em down,

Hey guys,

I’m excited to have the opportunity to blog for Bluff. I’ve never blogged before/rarely post in the forums so bear with me. I’ll be posting periodically about all of my swings and swongs etc.

A little bit about my poker background…I started out grinding small stakes on Bodog. At some point I luckboxed a $50K guarantee and caught the tournament bug. I used some of the winnings from that tourney to get some lessons for myself and a couple of buddies from The Maven. After that training I continued to grind the smaller stakes for quite a while. About 15,000 tournaments later, I now play just about all the mid/high stakes tourneys available as daisyxoxo and 00psiedaisy. Any given day that I play I’ll fire up between 50-70 tournaments so hopefully I’ll find some good stuff to talk about.

I’ll post something soon.

Take em down,
