Journey since July…

Since that 19 hr marathon back in July, my life has certainly been an adventure. Between the media requests, celebrations and business related meetings (lawyers, accountants, sponsors), there sure hasn’t been much poker being played. The first chance for me to really sink my teeth into a game of poker since mid July came in Calgary for the Canadian Open Poker Championships (COPC). My plan on going to this tournament series was to spend most of my focus on the 5k Heads up main event. The reason why I wanted to put my focus here was because I don’t have much live heads up experience, at least didn’t, and to bring home a bracelet come November, this would have to change. After 17 games and 6 matches, my focus paid off and I won the event.

As exciting as it was to win the cash and the ring, more important to me was gaining the confidence to play heads up live. The format of the tournament was a best of 3 and in 3 of my first 5 matches I had to come back from losing the first match. The confidence in playing from behind should serve me well come November.

No Ego. No Emotion. Just Poker.
